Forage Wagon Silaging System

We operate a Pottinger Torro 5100 - 51 cu metre machine. Pottinger forage wagons give a consistent chop length and are gentle on the crop meaning the forage is full of clover and leaf which could otherwise be lost in a forage harvester system. Modern forage wagons, equipped with massive feed rotors have an enormous appetite and compact the crop into the wagon to give loads of 10 -12 tonnes.

Depending on the quantity of crop outputs of 50 - 100 acres per day are achievable. Liquid additive applicator fitted.

The forage wagon system is ideally suited to farms wanting to take multiple cuts of high quality grass at optimum growth stage. A forage harvester system charging by the acre means farmers are encouraged to take cuts for maximum yield rather than quality in order to get value for money. By charging by the hour, we allow the farmer to cut for quality - a smaller cut of higher quality grass will take less time to harvest and so will give good value for money.

Rear steering axle and wide tyres on wagon and tractor mean that sward damage is minimised. It has been noted that wheelings from the mower operation will leave more damage than the forage wagon outfit. The fact that only one machine is in the field equipped with low ground pressure tyres means that the number of wheelings and risk of compaction is reduced.

The forage wagon system offers the following advantages:

- Increased profits for the farmer thanks to reduced foraging costs.

- Increased flexibility - we can provide a full or part operation - customers can choose to supply mowing, raking, buckraking if they wish.

- Increased digestion of forage - longer chop increases cud chewing and better utilisation of plant feed value.
- Increased feed value - the flexibility of the system allows customers to take cuts at the optimum growth stage.
- Reduced losses - your fields will never have been harvested so cleanly. Unlike a forage harvester system the grass wont miss to get blown into the trailer and the lighter leaf fractions wont blow away.
- Reduced effluent - longer chop means less effluent so the feed value stays in the pit.
- Reduced health problems - longer chop gives improved rumen health and reduces twisted gut problems.
- Reduced ground campaction.
